Grow Against the Odds

There are times when it seems like everything would be easier or more feasible “if only”. You think "I would be able to travel “if only” I made more money, more time, more support, etc." Life would be so much more manageable “if only” this person would do this, or my job was like that. However, the reality is this concept is rarely true. If there wasn’t this barrier there would be another. Remember, to whom much is given much is required. So, if you get a better paying job then comes the additional responsibilities that make up the additional pay. Now you are in a situation where you have more money but less time or freedom.

Where does this type of thinking come from? Comparing and assuming from the illusion of what we believe someone else’s life is like. We gaze at what other’s present of their life (Facebook pages, Twitter feeds, or the professional demeanor) and wish our reality reflected that. This leads to wondering what tweaks could be made in our life that would produce such a result. The assumption comes with the correlation that if this change occurs THEN the result will automatically lead to the glorious happy ending. “If only” I could afford a personal chief THEN I would be fit like Jillian Michaels. However, you fail to account for vast unknown variables and sacrifices made by Jillian Michaels to get to this point. You have no idea what her life is like beyond what you see and if she is even truly happy.

So, what’s the point? You must make the most of your situation understanding that every other person in the world is doing the exact same thing. No, they may not have the same struggles, but they do have struggles. You cannot determine the extent or cost that they attribute to their hardships and what they overcame to accomplish their goals. Plus, the same people we are analyzing are often looking at someone else thinking “if only” and desiring to like someone else or in that person’s situation to escape barriers just like you. There will never be a perfect time and place for everything in your life. Which means when you face a road block you must find a way around it. Climb over it, dig under it, go around the side or even fight your way through it but make it to the other side.
